Maternity Portrait

Maternity is Beautiful
My friend Caroline is beautiful in every conceivable way, and I jumped when given the chance to photograph her. The trouble was, we were in France and I had just a camera and a standard lens and no lighting. I wanted a studio photograph with quality light that was controllable, so we worked smart by waking up at 6 AM and improvising. I used an enormous window in her house that was on the back wall out of the frame, and a silver heat shield from her stove as a directional reflector placing it to give a rim light effect that would enhance her shape. The captures were decent, but I wanted a warm glow in the finished image, so a bit of Photoshop film effects were used. This shot is a perfect example of making studio lighting with nothing, and the result is lovely.
Thanks Caroline.

Learning that you had to improvise with what you had at hand to light this shot makes it even greater. Very inspiring! I really like this shot as well as the way you aproached it.
